Are prescription drugs addictive?

Prescription drugs, particularly benzodiazepines, can be highly addictive and as a result are frequently misused, with individuals taking higher doses than prescribed, or combining their usage with other drugs and / or alcohol to achieve altered states of mind. A supervised prescription detox is strongly recommended for anyone who is misusing prescription drugs, as attempting to stop using them without medical assistance can result in extremely uncomfortable and distressing side effects, which can include seizures. What is involved in a prescription detox programme?

The form of prescription detox we use typically involves reducing the dose of the prescription drug or drugs, over a period of time. Depending on the length of usage and the dose of the medication being taken, the prescription detox typically lasts between a few days and a few weeks. In order to devise the right prescription detox, we consider carefully the length of time the individual has been using the prescription medication, how much they have been using, and whether there have been any notable changes in how much they have been using over time.
